Course Title: Occupational Therapy Leadership: Supports and Barriers Within Aging in Place (AIP)

Course abstract: According to AARP, 85% of elders want to age in their homes (2021). OT interventions are proven to positively impact factors related to aging in place. Only .02% of OTs, however, held managerial positions in 2022 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). This presentation outlines a study describing supporting and limiting factors for Florida OTs in obtaining leadership positions. Participants will understand OT leadership trends and be able to advocate for OT leadership within aging in place settings.
Course Objectives: After this presentation, participants will be able to identify and describe the facilitators and barriers that support/limit Florida OTs holding leadership positions in aging in place agencies. Participants will describe the importance of Florida OT leadership within aging and aging in place settings. Participants will be able to identify next steps in research and advocacy for OT leadership.
Speaker description: Katie has been an OT for 12 years and lives in Florida with her husband and two children. She is most passionate about empowering OT leadership across all arenas of healthcare and communities.
